On my 40th birthday, I looked back over my life and I felt like I had accomplished nothing. I had a dead-end job and I was hugely unfulfilled, and I felt that everything up until that point, career wise, had been a waste of time. I went into major depression which progressed to me being suicidal.
About 4 years later, I was diagnosed with Cancer. You would think that that would have propelled my depression deeper, but it had the opposite affect. After a harrowing battle, whilst still in hospital connected up to 9 tubes and recovering from reconstructive surgery, I decided I had a second chance at life and I should use it wisely. I saw it as a fresh start with a blank piece of paper, this time, I was going to make my life count.
Today, I work at the highest levels of government in Jamaica and in the UK, including being an Adviser to No 10 Downing St.
Today I’m The CEO of The Jarrett Foundation & Veranda Connect Ltd, Doctor, Actor, Singer, Keynote Speaker for conferences & podcasts, Masterclass Tutor, Musical Theatre Producer, Presenter, Author, Playwright, Ambassador for “Home for Good” and Mentor as “Aunty Pearl” to numerous young people and older people alike.
I am a Multi Award Winner and I have now reinvented myself 12 times over the last 15 years. The reason I do this, is because before, I used to talk myself out of 'everything', now I don't talk myself out of 'anything'. If I want to try it, I go for it. When you have looked death in the face, life has a different perspective when you feel you have nothing to lose. That fearlessness I feel, makes me absolutely unstoppable.
